Cedar Rapids, IA, April 7, 2011, Bryan Dowd, Counseling Psychologist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, has been recognized by Elite American Health Professionals for dedication, achievements and leadership in mental health care.
Mr. Dowd started his 27-year career with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs through his own experience with receiving benefits as a service-disabled veteran. Combined with his experience working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa, he soon became known for his expertise in assistance provision for other service-disabled veterans. Celebrating nearly two decades in his current position as a counseling psychologist in its vocational rehabilitation and employment division, he has proved instrumental for a litany of services, including rehabilitation, employment preparation, job transition and location. In addition, Mr. Dowd handles financial assistance programs that include burial allowances, and monetary benefits for education and employment. Utilizing his ability to listen and not just hear, he deftly assesses the strengths of veterans and reviews their circumstances in order to determine for which programs they are eligible.
Attributing his success to the support and encouragement he received from past supervisors, Mr. Dowd realized that not having all the answers actually enables positive professional growth. With a drive to further his education, he graduated from the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in rehabilitation and became a certified rehabilitation counselor. Formerly, Mr. Dowd held memberships with the National Rehabilitation Administration Association, the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association and the American Counseling Association. He enjoys riding motorcycles, golfing and traveling during his leisure time.
