Los Altos, California | November 23, 2010 | Deborah Leigh Coblentz, MFT, psychotherapist, has been recognized by Elite American Health Professionals for her dedication, achievements and leadership in mental health care.
A psychotherapist with a private practice, Ms. Coblentz specializes in child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapy, featuring cognitive behavioral therapy and animal assisted therapy. She is responsible for treating children using golden retrievers, and assisting children with academic and athletic anxieties, and high-risk overachievers to manage their anxiety. Prior to her current position, she was a trainer for division one athletes and received the Coach’s Award from Mayor Tom McEnery in 1986.
As a practiced psychotherapist, Ms. Coblentz has dedicated her work to successfully helping others gain confidence and defeat their problems. Focused on improving her patient’s mental health and well-being, Ms. Coblentz enjoys watching each patient’s transformation as they gain confidence and get back on track. She hones in on each patient’s strength and works on positivity training. She attributes her success in her profession to her genuine passion for her career and her authenticity when interacting with a patient. She does not interact with her patients in a stiff clinical manor; instead she strives to be personable and understanding.
As an intercollegiate athlete and former athletic trainer, Ms. Coblentz is more adept in working and performing under pressure. She is also able to pull from her background in athletics to help motivate and “coach” a patient back to a positive mental state. Ms. Coblentz knows others in the mental health profession may not have the background she has, but she advises them to maintain a high level of trust and integrity with each client and strive to make the client feel comfortable so they can be more perceptive to your guidance. She also recommend for others to focus on networking within the industry and to do volunteer and pro-bono work whenever possible.
In 1998, Ms. Coblentz received a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from John F. Kennedy University, she also holds a Bachelor of Science in physical education and coaching from the University of Wisconsin-Madison obtained in 1983. Ms. Coblentz is a licensed marriage and family therapist with the State of California. She retains affiliations with the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists, Petpals, the American Board of Professional Counselors, and the Better Business Bureau. She has also been honored with various awards during both her training and coaching career and her counseling career, including Athletic Hall of Fame Inauguration from Queen of Peach High School in Burbank, Illinois in 2008, America’s Top Mental Health Professionals from Consumer’s Research Council of America in 2006, Appreciation Award for Service from the South Bay Chapter of California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists in 2005, Outstanding Leadership Award from the University of Wisconsin Athletics in 1982, and she received a full athletic scholarship for women’s volleyball from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1978.
