Doris Ricks-Lankford is the director of patient services for the north Texas chapter of The ALS Association, a nonprofit organization specializing in home visits and assessments for patients and education to promote awareness of amytotrophic lateral sclerosis. Motivated by a desire to better serve patients and their families, Ms. Ricks-Lankford pursued a career path that would allow her to do so more than two decades ago. She also wanted to work for a nonprofit organization and integrate her background in health care, education and counseling into her work. She is also an information, intervention and resource specialist. The position she currently holds enables her freedom to grow personally and professionally while serving others, which is one of her long-term goals. Prior to becoming involved in education and counseling, Ms. Ricks-Lankford published an article in a dental journal in 1982. She graduated cum laude from The Medical College of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene, and received a postgraduate teaching certification in secondary science, middle through high school, from Augusta State University. She also graduated summa cum laude upon receiving a Master of Arts in professional counseling from Argosy University in Dallas, and she looks forward to pursuing a Ph.D. in the near future.
